Maven Capital Partners (Maven) invested a total of GBP10 million in 18 dynamic, high growth businesses in the North East region in 2021.
This significant level of investment has been achieved through Maven’s management of regional funds in the North East, alongside its suite of private equity funds.
Local companies that received funding last year include innovative performance marketing services provider, Leaf; specialist food and beverage canning, sterilisation and pasteurisation business, CRL Foods; and intelligent software solutions provider for rail and construction, Project Control Tools.

Pierce Washington, a software system integrator executing enterprise-level configure-price-quote (CPQ) and digital commerce implementations, has been recapitalised by Kidd & Company, a family office doing direct thesis-driven equity investing in the lower middle market, as well as Ignite Labs, Spring Capital and Southfield Mezzanine.
Founded in 2005 and headquartered in San Francisco, CA, Pierce Washington has built a reputation for customer focus and delivery excellence. The recapitalisation will accelerate Pierce Washington’s growth and expansion, specifically in offering its customers a “total commerce” solution across the quote-to-cash business process.

Gresham House Ventures has invested GBP1.4 million into ActiveNav, a developer of data privacy and governance software, as part of a GBP2 million series A+ round on behalf of the Mobeus VCTs.
Founded in 2008, ActiveNav, a data privacy and governance software provider, helps privacy and compliance teams quickly identify, inventory and map sensitive data.
The investment builds on a previous GBP5 million investment from the Mobeus VCTs, which form part of the broader Gresham House Ventures offering alongside the Baronsmead VCTs. This previous investment was part of an USD11 million Series A round for ActiveNav in November 2019, following
Gale Healthcare Solutions, a technology-enabled healthcare services and payments platform that provides per diem, contract, and travel temporary staffing services in post-acute and acute healthcare settings, along with daily pay for healthcare staff, has secured a USD60 million growth equity investment from FTV Capital, a sector-focused growth equity investment firm.
Gale Healthcare will use the funding to continue its rapid expansion in the USD24.7 billion healthcare temporary staffing market and make further investments in its industry-leading technology and payments platform.
Five Sigma, a cloud-native Claims Management solution provider, has extended its Series A round with funding from Aquiline Technology Growth (ATG), bringing the company’s total funding to date to over USD20 million.
The company’s Series A funding was initially announced in September of 2021.
Five Sigma optimises claims management by adding automated claims processing workflows, using data modeling and AI to provide smart recommendations, resulting in increased operational efficiencies, an enhanced customer experience, accelerated times to resolution and the amelioration of the claims management process. Current customers include INSHUR, Hippo, Marshmallow, Qover and others.
8minute Solar Energy (8minute) has closed USD400 million in financing from EIG, an institutional investor in the global energy and infrastructure sectors.
Iterative Scopes, a specialist in the development of precision-based gastrointestinal (GI) disease technologies and software, has raised USD150 million in Series B financing to accelerate development of its core algorithmic innovations that are designed to transform gastroenterology care for patients.
The round was co-led by Insight Partners and Clearlake Capital Group, as well as returning investors Obvious Ventures, Johnson and Johnson Innovation-JJDC Inc, Eli Lilly, Breyer Capital and other industry and financial leaders.

All Star Auto Lights (All Star), a specialty distributor of alternative automotive parts and a portfolio company of Atlantic Street Capital, has acquired Autolights.
Autolights sells refurbished headlights, taillights, and fog lights primarily to the collision repair industry and automotive dealers. Autolights was founded in 2009 and is headquartered in Ferndale, MI within the Detroit metro area.
