African PE has remained robust with the total value of fundraising increasing to USD2.7 billion in 2018 from USD2.4 billion in 2017, indicating investors’ ongoing confidence in the sector, according to a report by the African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (AVCA).
The total value of African PE fundraising between 2013 and 2018 was USD17.8 billion and the median size of final closed funds over the same period was USD123 million.

Laurel Solutions, an affiliate of private equity firm FFL Partners (FFL), has completed the acquisition of Servelec Technologies, a market-leading provider of remote monitoring systems, secure SCADA systems, and business optimisation software providing complete end-to-end automation and optimisation solutions to clients around the world.
Terms of the private transaction were not disclosed.

A group of investors including the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, the Russia-China Investment Fund and a leading Middle Eastern sovereign fund (Group), have completed a deal to acquire a 9.53 per cent stake in Intergeo, a metals and mining company and part of ONEXIM Group.
The investment is included in the list of the Intergovernmental Russian-Chinese Commission on Investment Cooperation initiated by RDIF and the Chinese Investment Corporation in 2014 to promote cross-border investment projects. The Investors will nominate Alexander Khloponin and Lev Kuznetsov as their representative on the Board of Directors of the Company.
European law firm Fieldfisher advised on close to GBP1.5 billion-worth of equity capital markets (ECM) deals across the London and Paris capital markets in 2018.
The majority of Fieldfisher’s ECM transactions were completed on AIM, the junior tier of the London Stock Exchange, for which the firm is consistently ranked as one of the top advisers to listed companies. Fieldfisher advised on deals with a combined value GBP1.23 billion on AIM last year, equal to around 21 per cent of all funds raised on London’s junior market in 2018.

Guernsey’s financial services regulator has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority to ensure market access for Guernsey investment funds into the UK after Brexit.
Guernsey has a market access agreement with the 28 Member States of the European Union under the EU’s Alternative Investment Fund Managers’ Directive. The agreement was made and signed with the European securities regulator, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA).
