JMP Group’s hedge fund and investment arm Harvest Capital Strategies has raised USD245 million for the Harvest Intrexon Enterprise Fund, an investment vehicle dedicated to funding companies that utilise the inventions, discoveries and technologies of Intrexon Corporation, a specialist in synthetic biology.
The Harvest Intrexon Enterprise Fund will invest exclusively in entities that utilise Intrexon’s technology, with a particular focus on new companies, to spur the creation of biologically-based products across a number of sectors, which may include healthcare, food, agriculture, energy, environment, chemicals and consumer products. Waterlogic is to acquire the water cooler division of PHS Group (PHS Waterlogic) for an undisclosed amount.
PHS Waterlogic is a long established water cooler business active in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the Netherlands. The business exclusively distributes Waterlogic manufactured and branded point-of-use water (POU) coolers, and was originally acquired by PHS Group from Waterlogic in 2000. PHS Waterlogic adds a total of circa 90,000 POU water coolers on rental and service contracts to Waterlogic’s existing operations.
The UK business of PHS Waterlogic will be merged with Angel Springs, one of the leading UK bottled water and point-of-use businesses
Private equity firm TA Associates is to invest USD187,000,000 in StorageCraft Technology Corporation, an international provider of backup and recovery software.
Additional terms of the transaction, which is expected to close in late January, have not been disclosed. In connection with the investment, Matt Medeiros has joined StorageCraft as Chairman and CEO.

The corporate team from the Manchester office of national law-firm, Shoosmiths has advised private equity firm, NorthEdge on its investment into TKC, a Greater Manchester-based kitchen trade supplier.
The investment was used to back a management buyout of TKC and to secure a majority stake in the GBP19m-turnover business for NorthEdge.
This is the first deal where Shoosmiths has advised NorthEdge. The national law firm was appointed to provide a range of legal support to NorthEdge including advice around corporate M&A , private equity, banking, tax, employment and legal due diligence.

Palatine Private Equity has appointed Rupert Brown as Investment Manager as the firm looks to increase the investment capacity of the southern team.
Brown joins from NBGI Private Equity where he spent over four years in the UK investment team working on a number of acquisitions, including ATR Group and Horizon Care, and holding several board positions. Rupert, who is a qualified Chartered Accountant, started his career at PwC where he worked on a variety of private equity transactions and financial restructurings.
Brown will work alongside Palatine Partner Tony Dickin and Investment Director Andy Strickland in the London office.
Impax Asset Management (Impax) has completed the sale of a 51 per cent stake in Ballycadden Wind Farm, near County Wexford, Ireland to the Greystone Infrastructure Fund.
The wind farm has an installed capacity of 24 MW and is powered by nine Enercon turbines which were connected to the grid during the first half of 2013.
The acquisition represents the Fund’s inaugural investment in the European market and provides its institutional investors with an opportunity to gain long-term exposure to the European renewable energy sector.

Harvest Partners has promoted Stephen Carlson to Managing Director of the firm. Previously a Principal, he joins the eight current Managing Directors and Senior Managing Directors of Harvest.
Carlson joined Harvest in 2010 from DLJ Merchant Banking Partners. He is a cum laude graduate of The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and received a Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
