Leveraged finance partner Olivier Vermeulen has joined the Paris office of law fimr Paul Hastings as a partner and head of the Finance practice in the office. Vermeulen joins from King & Wood Mallesons, where he was head of the Paris Finance department, and brings a team of three lawyers with him.
 
Vermeulen has broad experience in leveraged finance, funds financing, structured finance, debt restructuring and general lending and securitisation, advising financial institutions and private equity funds. He is recognised in Chambers Europe and Legal 500 EMEA for Banking & Finance.

Iranian investment group Turquoise Partners is predicting a significant increase in foreign investor interest in the country in the wake of the lifting of UN, EU and US sanctions. Sanctions on Iran were lifted on Saturday 16 January paving the way for key sectors of the country’s economy, including banking, to resume commercial relations with the European Union.   Turquoise currently manages more than 90 per cent of all existing foreign portfolio investment on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). Imperial Innovations Group has committed GBP24.75 million to the new UCL Technology Fund, the first investment fund that UCL (University College London) has established to commercialise its multidisciplinary research.  Over the next five years the fund is expected to invest up to GBP50 million to support ideas from academics in life sciences and physical sciences, and will be used for early-stage proof of concept funding, licensing opportunities and the formation of new spin-out companies.

As a limited partner (LP), Innovations has committed GBP24.75 million to the Fund, matched by a commitment in the same amount from the European Investment Fund.
