Valerie Georges-Thomas, Bedell Cristin
Bedell Cristin has appointed Valerie Georges-Thomas to head up the firm’s British Virgin Islands office. Georges-Thomas (pictured) was previously a partner at Appleby in the firm’s corporate and commercial practice group. Her appointment follows on from Bedell opening an office in Singapore in July, headed by BVI lawyer Stephen Adams. Bedell’s BVI law practice, represented in Jersey, Singapore and the BVI, acts as a gateway for the flows of corporate business from China and the wider Asian region. Quilvest Group, a wealth manager and private equity investor, has opened two offices in São Paulo, Brazil and Geneva, Switzerland. The offices are Quilvest’s 12th and 13th worldwide. Both offices will be fully integrated with Quilvest’s global network and involved in business development. The São Paulo office will focus on direct and co-investments as well as private equity and real estate fund investments, while the Geneva office will focus on wealth management. Hamdani has more than ten years of experience in the European distressed market. Alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group has named Robert Mancini a managing director and co-head of the Infrastructure Fund, joining founding co-head Robert Dove. Mancini is currently a managing director at The Goldman Sachs Group with responsibility for power asset investments made through Cogentrix Energy, an independent power producer and wholly owned subsidiary of Goldman Sachs. Mancini is currently also the chief executive of Cogentrix. He will join Carlyle upon the completion of the acquisition, expected in the fourth quarter of 2012, by Carlyle of Cogentrix’s North American business and will be based in New York.
