Bindi Karia has joined Silicon Valley Bank’s UK branch to lead the firm’s efforts in the early stage “accelerator” space.
Karia (pictured), currently the venture capital/emerging business lead at Microsoft UK, will begin the newly created role in January 2013, reporting into Phil Cox, head of EMEA and India and president of the bank’s UK branch.
Cox says: “This new appointment demonstrates Silicon Valley Bank’s commitment to the UK technology scene. Bindi is extremely well connected within the industry and we are delighted to have her on board to drive our growth efforts for new banking clients in the Accelerator
The Institutional Limited Partners Association has appointed Michael Mazzola, managing director, head of alternative investments at MetLife, to the position of chairman of ILPA’s board of directors.

DN Capital, an early stage and growth capital investor in the digital media, e-commerce, software and mobile industries in Europe and North America, has appointed Simon Greenman as venture partner UK and John Helm as venture partner in Germany.
In addition, Jonathan Pell and Jaclyn Schnau join the industry advisory board.

Patrick Goebel has joined international law firm Dechert’s financial services and investment management group as a partner in Luxembourg.
Goebel was previously with Allen & Overy.

Brian T Daly has joined Schulte Roth & Zabel as a partner in the firm’s investment management and regulatory and compliance groups.
Resident in the firm’s New York office, Daly concentrates on advising hedge and private equity fund managers on regulatory, compliance and operational matters, including registration and disclosure obligations, trading issues, advertising and marketing, and the establishment of compliance programmes.
Daly joins the firm after nearly a decade serving in-house as general counsel and chief compliance officer at several prominent hedge fund firms. He most recently was with Kepos Capital, which he joined in early 2010 as a
Palamon Capital Partners has appointed John David as managing director, investment strategy.
David joins Palamon’s pan-European team, all based in London, to advance the firm’s thematic investment model which proactively identifies and partners high growth service businesses across Europe.
David joins Palamon from Allstate Investments where he spent seven years, latterly as global strategist and head of the London office.
Previously, he was a senior portfolio manager for seven years at Northwestern Investment Management Company. This followed a ten year career in derivatives research and trading roles with top-tier global financial institutions.
Louis Elson, managing partner of Palamon,
Business Growth Fund (BGF), established to help the UK’s fast growing smaller and medium sized businesses, has appointed John Swarbrick as its head of portfolio.
He will be joining immediately to play a key role in overseeing BGF’s growing portfolio of high growth entrepreneurial businesses.

Grant Thornton has appointed Michael Patanella as leader of its national asset management sector.

Denham Capital, an energy and resources-focused global private equity firm, is to open an office in Perth, Australia, one of the world’s main hubs for metals and minerals activity.
The new office will open in February 2013 and be led by Bert Koth, director of Denham Capital’s metals and minerals team who will be relocating from the firm’s London office.
In addition to pursuing metals and minerals investments in Australia and the Asia Pacific region, the office will also seek opportunities in Denham Capital’s other two core sectors: power and renewables and oil and gas.

Private equity firm Z Capital Partners has promoted four members of its team – Martin J Auerbach, Christopher J Kipley, Rahul Sawhney and Jonathan Schmugge – to senior managing director and partner.
All four individuals were previously managing directors.
