Christopher Spiegleman, former director of tax at J.H. Whitney, has joined the Metro New York alternative investment funds practice at WTAS as a managing director in the Greenwich office.
Spiegelman brings a strong background in multiple industries and areas of taxation including investment partnerships, alternative investments, private equity, hedge and debt funds.
At Whitney, Spiegelman addressed tax planning and structuring issues at the investor level, fund level, portfolio investment level and fund manager level. In addition, he worked closely with the principals of the firm to achieve wealth preservation including estate and insurance planning.

Law firm DLA Piper has appointed David H. Lee, Robert C. Davis and Fred W. Blakeslee II to its private equity practice as partners in the Chicago office.
The group joins the firm from Mayer Brown.
Representing private equity funds, as well as public and private companies, the team focuses on handling business transactions around the globe which involve private equity investments.

Fund administrator HSBC Securities Services (Guernsey) has appointed Amit Taylor as a managing director.
Taylor, a Chartered Accountant, was previously European head of sales for asset managers in London.
Before joining HSBC, Taylor held several roles within PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he helped to build its investment management consultancy business in the UK and was manager in the investment management division of the audit and assurance practice.
European private equity firm Cinven has made two appointments to its portfolio support team.
Immo Rupf has been appointed as an operating partner in London and Ivan Kwok has been appointed as a principal in Hong Kong.
Based in London, Rupf will focus on growing and improving Cinven’s portfolio companies, working in conjunction with both the Cinven sector teams and the board of each company. He will also work closely with Cinven’s portfolio support team in Asia, seeking to add value to portfolio companies exploiting opportunities in that region as well as in emerging Europe.

The Swiss Funds Association has appointed Petra Reinhard Keller of Credit Suisse Asset Management Funds in Zurich to its board of directors.
Reinhard Keller is a managing director and head fund solutions and clients services as well as deputy chief executive of Credit Suisse Asset Management Funds.
She replaces Raoul-Philip Bachmann, who has left Credit Suisse and has thus stepped down from the SFA board of directors.
Reinhard Keller has been active in the fund business for ten years, holding executive positions for most of this time.

Glencoe Capital, a Chicago-based private equity firm focused on control acquisitions of lower middle-market companies, has appointed William A. Geoppinger, the former president and chief executive officer of Sara Lee Foods, to its investment committee.
Glencoe Capital’s investment committee includes two senior executives from outside the firm who have management and operational experience.
Geoppinger has served Glencoe Capital in an advisory capacity for several years as a member of its executive network, a group of approximately 40 current and former Fortune 1000 C-level executives and entrepreneurs who have specialised operational and managerial expertise in a range of industries.

Apollo Global Management has appointed Marc Spilker as president, effective 1 December 2010.
Spilker will run the day to day operations of Apollo and sit on the company’s executive committee.
In addition to Spilker, Apollo’s executive committee includes: Leon Black, chairman and chief executive officer; Josh Harris, senior managing director; Marc Rowan, senior managing director; and Henry Silverman, vice chairman and chief operating officer.

Walkers, the legal and management services provider, says it will be creating a significant number of jobs in Ireland as the firm further expands its Dublin office which opened in October.
Approximately 25 new positions will be created by the end of 2010, rising to around 50 new jobs by the end of 2011.

European private equity firm Cinven has hired Thilo Sautter as a partner.
Sautter will join Cinven in 2011 from Investcorp, where he worked for over 13 years.
Prior to leaving the firm, he was the partner responsible for private equity investing in German speaking markets, a member of the investment committee and headed the business services sector team.
At Cinven, Sautter will jointly lead the team covering German speaking markets with Cinven partner Bruno Schick, who is head of the Frankfurt office.
