Securities and investment banking firm Jefferies has appointed Kamlesh Bhatia as a managing director responsible for private placement origination within the firm’s equity capital markets group.
Bhatia brings to Jefferies more than ten years of investment banking experience, including five years in the equity capital market groups at Piper Jaffray and Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he originated, structured and executed over USD3bn of privately negotiated equity and equity-linked transactions for public and private clients.
Prior to this, Bhatia spent four years in investment banking at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Credit Suisse First Boston.

As directors of Starwood Capital do Brasil, the two executives will be responsible for expanding Starwood’s presence in Brazil, leading its acquisition and asset management activities there and managing the Brazil asset management group.
Rodolfo and Vitor Senra both join Starwood Capital do Brazil from Sollers Investimentos, a Brazilian real estate investment firm focused on the office, warehouse and residential markets. The two men founded the firm
Investment banking firm Evercore Partners has appointed Lincoln C. Singleton as a managing director in the firm’s private funds group.
Singleton will be based in Evercore’s New York office where he will be responsible for managing the group’s relationships with limited partners in the south-east and Texas.
Previously, he was a managing director at Durham Asset Management, the distressed credit manager, where he played a significant role in increasing its assets under management from USD420m to USD1.35bn.

Castle Harlan’s president Justin Wender has resigned from the firm and its associated companies, effective immediately.
The New York private equity investment firm has appointed Howard Morgan and Bill Pruellage, two of its senior managing directors, as co-presidents.
Morgan and Pruellage will assume all the responsibilities formerly handled by Wender.

The Blackstone Group has appointed Dr Robert Galvin as chief executive officer of Equity Healthcare.
Equity Healthcare is Blackstone’s health management programme which aims to improve quality and contain costs in providing healthcare to the employees and their families of private equity portfolio companies.
Currently Equity Healthcare encompasses 34 companies, the combined healthcare spending of which exceeds USD2bn annually.

Okapi Partners, the proxy solicitation firm, has hired Geoff Sorbello as a managing director.
Sorbello joins Okapi Partners from ISS, a division of RiskMetrics Group which is now a subsidiary of MSCI.
While at ISS, Sorbello was responsible for providing governance services and advice, including M&A research, to the firm’s hedge fund clients. Sorbello worked closely with the firm’s proxy advisory services group, actively participating in dialogue regarding contentious mergers and acquisitions and proxy fights. Additionally, Sorbello managed relationships with many of the firm’s institutional investor clients.

Law firm Dechert has appointed M. Holland West, a private funds and derivatives lawyer, as a partner in the financial services practice group in New York.
West was previously at Shearman & Sterling, where he was the head of its global hedge fund, private equity, derivatives and structured finance practices.
